taiwan recently passed a new copyright law, bowing to international pressure to strengthen it's prosecution of violators. a few years ago, some students were arrested for downloading mp3s. well, now it seems ammendments to this new law make it only illegal to download or copy things if you make a profit or sell them, but for personal use is ok. this is surpisingly good news. the ifpi is not happy though. will this speed up the demise of the major labels? some are boycotting any artist that belongs to the riaa, i haven't gone that far but at this point i'm refusing to buy any cd that has copy protection incorporated into it. i'm seeing them pop up more and more here though.
