my cold is pretty much gone now, but i've got a bit of a cough still, and this morning i woke up with a sore back. i'm just falling apart apparently.
when i was home sick in the states, it'd mean time to take in lots of bad tv(no idea how many times i've seen troop beverly hills due to being sick). but here, bad tv takes on different forms. i mean anne of green gables doesn't really qualify as bad tv(both the cartoon and the tv series) but this game show where kids were given a clue in chinese to an english word, and then they'd have to guess how to spell it might just qualify. i don't know if it was the producers making the show too easy, but i never saw a single kid give a wrong answer. so much for gameshow drama.
aside from vegetating on tv shows, i managed to watch some dvds. i'm not a big fan of dvd commentaries, but after viewing some movies, i took in some of their commentaries. after watching atom egoyan's next of kin, i watched it again listening to his commentary. i was happy to hear that his commentary was geared more towards film school students than to mainstream movie goers. a lot ot his commentary dealt with what he wanted to accomplish on a visual/formal level with his film, and failed to do. i think he may have been a bit too hard on himself and the film though. what someone wants a film to be, and what it turns out to be are rarely the same, and sometimes what results is better than what might have been.
i also listened to part of the commentary for escape to witch mountain. when i was little i loved ike eisenmann and kim richards. hearing them chatting away about making this film was like running into old friends again.
