a few days ago i finally got around to watching the tsai ming-liang film what time is it there?. unfortunately the dvd that's been released here isn't of the the highest quality(and it also seems to have been made off a foreign print as all credits are in english, and the subtitles cannot be turned off), but i'm just happy to be able to finally see it.

one thing i like about watching tsai ming-liang's films is that they are often filmed in places i frequent. this film is no exception. there's a scene where one of the characters goes to a street vendor and buys 400 blows on dvd. well, this vendor really exists(he's not an actor). in fact i myself bought 400 blows there. even some of the customers milling around looking at the dvds, i recognized from film screenings here. sadly, this vendor doesn't really sell dvds anymore as i suspect he sold quite a few bootlegs, and with the crackdown on such things he seems to have given up selling the dvds(at least at this location).

speaking of films, the english page is up for the women make waves festival. unfortunately, my work scheldule is going to interfere with seeing much, but i may try to see some of the afternoon scheldules on tuesday or wednesday.
