national toy hall of fame. national here of course means the states. i'd be curious to see an international toy hall of fame, especially games and toys that cross cultural boundaries. there aren't that many toys in the hall of fame yet, but you can rectify that and nominate toys yourself:
Q: What are the criteria for selecting toys for the National Toy Hall of Fame®?
A: The criteria for selection are:
1. Specificity: Only specific toys or games are eligible. Categories or types are not eligible. Examples of categories or types are “dolls” and “stuffed animals.” Examples of specific toys are “Barbie®,” “teddy bear,” and “Duncan® Yo-Yo.”
2. Safety: The toy should be safe for everyone for whom it is designed or who fall within the manufacturer’s recommended ages.
3. Icon-status: The toy must be widely recognized, respected, and remembered as a cultural icon.
4. Longevity: The toy must have been more than a passing fad. It must have enjoyed popularity over multiple generations.
5. Discovery: The toy should have educational value, meaning ability to foster learning, creativity, and discovery through play.
somehow i doubt we'll be seeing the ouija board in there anytime soon, but you never know. via j-walk.
