today peter and i went to see the new wong kar-wai film 2046. i really like wong kar-wai but the film sadly isn't very good. it felt really long. i can't remember the last time i saw a film where i was wondering when it would end. the story seemed unfocussed(or in need of some serious editing). the quirkiness of wkw's other films seemed to be missing too. the sets were nice, and i especially liked the city shots of life in 2046 that looked like cross processed blade runner. but that couldn't make up for the other short comings. and where was maggie cheung? the credits stated "a special appearance by maggie cheung" but she was no more than a cameo most of which looked to be just reused shots from in the mood for love.
