jerry goldsmith has died. it's always sad when one of these big name film composers die. but the truth is he probably hasn't done a soundtrack in the last 10 or maybe even 20 years that i care enough to want to own. logan's run and in like flint i dig, but his later stuff seemed so bland. i feel the same way about john williams too. when he was johnny williams i found his work so much more interesting. is this just because most soundtracks produced today are overproduced and and lack much experimentation or quirkiness? or is it i just prefer the style of music produced in the 50s and 60s? i suspect it may be a little of both. i can't even remember the last time i saw a new movie and was blown away by the soundtrack.
